11 Tips for Effective Article Rewriting

Article rewriting is the most effective way to extract value from your articles, and it is easier than writing from scratch. However, that doesn’t mean you can take it for granted and you can just insert a few new phrases here and there. If you want those rewritten articles to be as effective as the original (if not more so), you need to pay attention to the content and make revisions if necessary.

1. Write a Catchy Headline

This is where it all begins, and unless your headline catches the attention of users, your article will never be read. When rewriting headlines, you’ll want to use something that is still related to the article’s subject but with a different angle. Depending on the article specifications, you may also use another, related keyword that will catch the attention of the reader and optimize it for Google and other search engines.

2. Add Subheadings and Headers

Headers and subheadings can substantially improve the layout of your article. You can add headers to a long section of the article, making it more readable. Or perhaps there is a section in the article that you want to expound or extrapolate upon, and the best way to do it is to create a header that will tell the reader what the section is about. Another reason why it pays to use subheadings is they serve as an outline of the article and its content. In short, readers who like to scan articles can rely on the subheadings you put it in place to find the information they are looking for.

3. Add Bullets

One of the keys to successful article marketing is making sure the information is clear and well written, and one of the ways you can do this is to use bullets. Bullets provide the reader with a break from reading walls of text, and you can use it to highlight important aspects of your article. For instance, you can use bullets to list the pros and cons of the product being reviewed in your article. In fact, bullets can be used to break up important points in your article and make them more digestible.

4. Write Your Own Introduction

You have heard of this before but it’s something that bears repeating; the opening paragraph is where you either captivate your reader or lose them to the competitor. Right off the bat make sure that when rewriting, relevant content should be at the start and that it will encourage the reader to continue on to the rest of the article. By all means avoid fluff in your articles, but especially the introduction since that will cause your readers to turn away.

5. Add Keywords

Keywords are the means by which search engine spiders will find your article, so make sure that when you rewrite you use a related keyword that complements the existing one. Of course you cannot stuff your article with keywords, so use them only where applicable.

6. Add Links

Whenever possible, use links in the article that you’re rewriting, as that will supplement the information in your article and increase its value. If you’re going to do this you need to make sure that all links you use are live and from high quality sites so the search bots and users will be able to find your site. Adding links isn’t always possible though, so just use when it is possible.

7. White Space

If you want your unique content creation to be read you need to use white space, and that means cutting down those long paragraphs into smaller bits. The fact of the matter is, nobody likes to read long paragraphs on the web no matter how attractive the header or title is. If you want readers to read your articles, use white space and page breaks to give the readers’ eyes a break.

8. Add New Information if Available

If there is updated information on the article you are rewriting, include it and if necessary expand the original article. You may end up writing more than a little original content, but that is necessary if you want to hold on to your readers. If for instance, your readers realize that your article has outdated information they’ll go to another site and get facts there.

9. Keep Sentences Short and Simple

Unless there is a specific reason to use long sentences, keep them short and simple. Web readers want to get to the facts fast so make sure your article gets to the point quickly. Bullets and headers are nice, but short meaningful sentences are necessary to capture your readers’ attention. If you notice sentences in the original article that appear convoluted, rephrase them so they’re shorter but no less meaningful.

10. About Graphics and Images

It’s hardly a secret that graphics and images make articles easier to read, so if possible use that to your advantage. For instance if the article consists of numerous facts and figures, you can add an infographic or use pie / bar charts to get the point across visually. However you must not overdo it and only use when it’s necessary. It’s all too easy to fill up your article with images, charts, bullets and graphics that everything will look unwieldy, so keep them to a minimum. The rule of thumb with graphics and other visuals is if they don’t serve a purpose in your article other than eye candy, it should be removed.

11. Rearrange the Content

You don’t have to follow the exact order of the original article, and in fact it’s best if you change things up a bit. Try rearranging the order of the paragraphs so it looks even more different than the rest. Sometimes rewriting and rephrasing words aren’t enough to make an article unique, so why not reorganize the article entirely?
